Captain Kim Sandoval began her Law Enforcement career in 1985 in the United States Army as a Military Police and a Military Police Investigator where she served until 1991.  Captain Sandoval joined the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in 1993.  In 1994 Captain Sandoval returned to her home town and joined the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office where she has served for over twenty-three years.  Captain Sandoval transferred to the Criminal Investigative Division in 1996 where she was primarily tasked with crimes against person(s) investigations.  Captain Sandoval was promoted to Sergeant in the Criminal Investigative Division in 2002 and Lieutenant in 2011.

Captain Sandoval was promoted as Commander of the Support Bureau in March, 2017 and transferred to the Investigations Bureau Commander in October of 2022. As Commander of the Investigations Bureau, Captain Sandoval oversees the Criminal Investigative Division, Special Operations Division, Crime Scene  Division, and Victim Advocacy Program. 

Captain Sandoval has attended numerous schools and seminars specific to criminal investigations, internal affairs and supervision of personnel.  This training includes over 1300 hours of specialized training in death investigations, child abuse and exploitation, sex crimes investigations, crime scene investigation and interviewing of both suspects and victims. 

Captain Sandoval is a member of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s organized Child Abduction Response Team (CART) and the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team.  Captain Sandoval has attended training specializing in Underwater Crime Scene Investigation and Public Safety Diving.
