Vitali, JoseCaptain Jose Vitali has served with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office for a total of twenty-one years, starting his career in March 2001.  He currently oversees the Uniformed Patrol Bureau.

Captain Vitali served in the Uniform Patrol Division as a Deputy until transferring to the Narcotics Unit as a Detective in 2002. He returned to the Uniformed Patrol Division until 2005 when he transferred to the School Resource Program.  He was promoted to Sergeant over the School Resource Program until June of 2007, when he transferred back to the Uniformed Patrol Division.  In 2010 he was assigned the supervision of the Narcotics Unit until January of 2013 and was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant in October of the same year. In January 2021, he was promoted to his current rank of Captain.

His leadership training includes but is not limited to, Middle Management, FSA’s First Line Supervision Legal Issues, FEMA Crisis Management for School-Based Incidents for key decision makers, and has completed the FBI – Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA) Trilogy.  In addition he holds several Law Enforcement related certifications and has completed over a thousand hours of in service training.  His collateral duties include, Liaison for the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Posse and member of the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Dive team.  He served on the agency’s SWAT team from 2004 until 2017.

Captain Vitali is a graduate of the Florida Sheriff's Association Commanders Academy, Class V.

Captain Vitali served previously as a Communications Officer with the Arcadia Police Department in 1993. Attended the Law Enforcement academy at the Sarasota Technical Institute in 1994 and was transferred to the Arcadia Police Department Patrol Division the same year.  He served with the Arcadia Police Department for a total of 6 years and served with the U.S. Border Patrol as a Patrol Agent in Laredo, Texas in 1998.  He also served as an EMT with Lee County EMS in 2003.

Captain Vitali is an active member of Project Graduation and the DeSoto Gun Club.
