Captain Timothy Hilgeman has served with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office for a total of eighteen years, starting his career in May 2005.  Captain Hilgeman currently serves as the Support Bureau Commander; supervising the School Resource Safety Program, Court Security Unit, Civil, Records/ Warrants, Communications, E911, Agency Armory, and Sheriff's Office Emergency Management Operations.

Hilgeman served in the Uniform Patrol Division as a Deputy, was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May of 2016, was promoted the rank of Lieutenant in April of 2017, was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant in October of 2021 and in October of 2022 promoted to the rank of Captain. His certifications include field training officer program manager, police internal affairs, speed measurement devices, FAA part 107 certified drone pilot, Federal Emergency Management Agency Major Event Planning, and Incident Command Integration.  His leadership training includes First Line Supervisor, Middle Management, and the FBI - Law Enforcement Executive Development Association Trilogy; successfully completing the 286th Supervisor Leadership Institute, the 306th Command Leadership Institute, and the 241st Executive Leadership Institute.

Captain Hilgeman is a graduate of the Florida Sheriff's Association Commanders Academy, Class VII.

Captain Hilgeman previously served with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Officer.  Captain Hilgeman served on active and reserve duty for 24 years in the United States Air Force, retiring September 30, 2016, as a Security Forces Master Sergeant.
 
Captain Hilgeman is a member of the American Legion, Arcadia Elks Lodge 1524, DeSoto Gun Club, and the FBI-LEEDA Development Association.
